ENGLISH TRANSLATION SERVICE

INTRODUCTION:
Kefalonian Roots
provides an English Translation Service. This service offers the family
historian an English translation of the official Greek photocopies of Birth,
Marriage and Death Certificates and of Sea Vessel information found in the
Historical Archives; and certificates found in the Municipal Vital Statistics Records.
THE NEED FOR AN ENGLISH TRANSLATION OF THE
GREEK CERTIFICATES
Due to the fact that all
historical documents in the Archives are written in Katharevousa Greek and in
the writing style of the “historical/political period” in which the life event
occurred, it may be difficult for the family historian to understand the
photocopied certificate. For this reason, Kefalonian Roots offers
the English Translation Service.
The translation is made of the entire document; and is typed and printed in the
same format as the original Greek certificate. Through this English
translation, the researcher can precisely understand the information written on
the original document, and thus, gain more precise information concerning his
ancestor. Most family historians remember, that at first, they were thrilled by
possessing many historical documents referring to their ancestors; but later, they realized that only the documents that were comprehensible had
significant research value.
Through this service, the family historian can have both the historical
document, for its authenticity and sentimental value, and the English translation,
for its comprehensibility. An example of an original Greek certificate and the English
translation are shown below:
